Ourique's Employment Center is located in the Village of Ourique, inserted in the Regional Delegation of the Alentejo, Region of the Low Alentejo, and is connected to the districts of Almodôvar, Castro Verde and Ourique. The total area of these districts corresponds to 1993 Km2, with about 21.940 inhabitants. Its economy is essentially based upon agriculture and cattle, the services, and the small trading. Castro Verde district gives a major contribution to the development of the industry. Traditionally the pasture occupies a place of prominence in the life of these communities. Given to its location the three districts enjoy the from the fast and easy access to the great Centers, which attenuates the life of the populations from the consequences of living in the interior countryside. With the opening of the A2 and the expansion of the industry enterprise we can foresee a major development for this area.
